St. Stephens Episcopal Church 2019
In 2017 and 2018, members of our congregation teamed us with another LCMS church in Fairbanks, AK to serve small villages (Circle and Fort Yukon) in the interior of Alaska. In 2019, we formed our own team and partnered with Alaska Mission for Christ and settled in to serving Fort Yukon, AK.
Our congregation is working with Alaska Mission for Christ to spread the Love of Jesus throughout the last frontier, with our focus being Fort Yukon, AK. Our goal is tell the Good News to children and families in rural Alaska where access to a loving, Christian education is limited. In the summer, we send a team of about 10-12 volunteers to Fairbanks, AK then on to Fort Yukon, AK, where we work with the Chief of the village, the pastor of St. Stephens Episcopal Church and a church member to provide the community with construction, a Vacation Bible School for anywhere from 20+ children and our housing. At VBS, children are given the opportunity to learn about and experience the Love of Jesus through skits, crafts, games, and more. Various construction projects happen each year, depending on the need in the church. Our biggest project in the beginning was a Fellowship Hall addition to St. Stephens Episcopal Church with upgrades to the structure. Construction supplies are provided by the village, usually what you find, you can use.
If you have an interest in serving in Alaska, let us know below or reach out to our mission Facilitator, Jadi Gurganious.
2025 Alaska Mission trip is planned for June 12-21.
